Episode 05: Zion

After a two hour wait to get on the park shuttle, I was missing the solitude of New Mexico. The crowds were intense and I started to wonder if the human throngs were worth any landscape inside. At this point, a quiet spot to do my qi gong seemed out of the question. Once I got into the park, however, I saw that the wait and even the crowds were well worth it! The scenery is magnificent! I had never seen anything like it before, which makes it difficult to describe. Zion is a massive crack in Navaho sandstone that has left large, red rock cliffs with hanging gardens and colorful backdrops. Through the center of this crack is the Virgin River, where I found my qigong spots. I was able to step off the main walk-way and, surprisingly, no one disturbed my practice! I chose one spot, because a beautiful heron was perched nearby. If you look closely at ‘Qi Gong for Balance and Flexibility,’ the heron flies over the river during my qigong at 2:57. What a gift!

Qi Gong on the Virgin River

Movements support balance and flexibility in the waist. Good to stretch tendons and ligaments, massage kidneys, and strengthen lower body. Notice the Great Blue Heron that flies over the river at 2:57!
