Class Descriptions

  • Drop-In Anytime!

Qi Gong are ancient Chinese calisthenics that combine graceful, stretching movements with slow, measured breathing. In addition to deep breathing and coordinated movements, qi gong uses concentrated imagery to guide qi, or healing energy, throughout the body. In this way, we “wash” the body with our mind using intrinsic energy-flow to restore organ function and strengthen the immune system. Qi gong serves as the perfect stress-management tool and mind-refreshing tonic after long hours of work.

New students can drop-in anytime. Every few months, a new Qi Gong set will be introduced with 1-2 movements taught in detail each week.

  • Level 1 Tai Chi is taught in 5 or 8 Week Sessions.

Level 1 Tai Chi is an introductory class to experience the benefits of Tai Chi.  Class will include foundational exercises found in any tai chi practice including posture, body alignment and balance. Class typically begins with warm-up stretches and a "Tai Chi Flow" sequence that introduces tai chi basics and fundamentals. Students will then integrate these foundational principles and movements into a short, beginner form that can be practiced anytime for its therapeutic benefits.

  • Intermediate level - should have some knowledge of tai chi fundamentals.

    Tai Chi 24

Tai Chi 24 is the most widely practiced tai chi form in the world. This form was designed by Yang style masters in China as a standard for tai chi tournaments and wellness practice. Although considered a short form, this is our intermediate level tai chi form that expands on the Tai Chi 10 form learned in Level 1 Tai Chi. Students should start within the first 2-3 weeks of a new session. The form typically takes ~4 months to learn.

    Wudang 28 Taijiquan

Wu Dang Mountain is the birthplace of taijiquan (tai chi) and the Wu Dang style is famous for its internal martial arts. Although not a beginner form, Wu Dang 28 Taijiquan is a starter form for learning the Wu Dang style. Students will learn the Wu Dang 28 form step-by-step with an emphasis on Wu Dang principles.

This class is a prerequisite to learning the Wu Dang 108 Taijiquan. It is recommended that students have some tai chi experience or basic understand of tai chi fundamentals.

  • Advanced level - must know Tai chi 24 or WuDang 28.

    WuDang Sanfeng 13 Taijiquan

WuDang Sanfeng 13 Taijiquan is the original tai chi form designed by Zhang Sanfeng over 700 years ago on Wu Dang Mountain. Known as the "grandfather form," all internal martial arts sprouted from this form.  Students will learn the Wu Dang 13 form step-by-step.  Advanced Taiji principles will also be discussed to enhance your practice. This is a long form that typically takes 8-12 months to learn. It is recommended that students learn Tai chi 24 or WuDang 28 before learning Wu Dang 13

    WuDang 108 Taijiquan

For the first time, Issa is teaching the Wu Dang 108 Taijiquan form.  This form has been kept secret for hundreds of years and only recently has been taught to outsiders on Wu Dang mountain.  This will be the first time that 108 is taught in Atlanta! WuDang 108, Sanfeng 13 and Sanfeng 64 Tai Chi Sword comprise the complete Wu Dang Taijiquan system. Wu Dang 108 was designed by Zhang Sanfeng's students over numerous generations.  It is the largest and most advanced Tai Chi form. Students must know Wu Dang 28 in order to learn the 108 form.

  • WuDang Kung fu focuses on Xing Yi Quan.  Xing Yi Quan or "Form-Intention Boxing" is considered one of the ancient internal styles of Chinese martial arts. Xing Yi is characterized by aggressive, seemingly linear movements and explosive power that's most often applied from a short range. The style applies internal philosophy of yin-yang, 5 elements and breath work; while incorporating many attributes of external kung fu styles. Xing Yi's simplicity of movement, yet depth of mastery make it a great style for all levels of martial artist.

  • Note: Tai Chi for Seniors is a separate program and is always paid for on a class-by-class basis. Class cards, promos and Memberships CANNOT be used to pay for this class.

Our Tai Chi for Seniors class is a specially designed program for seniors of all activity levels, including those with special circumstances, such as Parkinson’s, arthritis, fibromyalgia, balance issues and so forth. These exercises can be performed standing or seated.  The class is based off Cate Morrill's "Movement Improvement Tai Chi" to help the elderly regain mobility, energize their spirit and reduce the risk of falling.  Cate's program is endorsed by doctors, nurses, physical therapists and many others in the Senior Health Care field. Movements are designed and instructed for all levels of ability, and taught at a pace all can follow.  We emphasize moves to loosen the major muscle groups, provide full rotation of the joints, and create balance and stability. And it’s fun!
